Even within road racing on tarmac, the sport splits along three lines.
An FIM world championship contested on machines derived from production motorcycles. That is the decisive difference from MotoGP: you cannot buy a MotoGP bike, but the basis of a WorldSBK machine is sold in dealerships.
Each round holds more than one race, so there is racing on Saturday as well as Sunday. There are 12 rounds in 2026.
Also an FIM world championship, but here a team of riders takes turns for eight or twenty-four hours. Outright pace is only part of it: running at night, the choreography of fuel and tyre stops, and simply not breaking all count.
There are only four rounds in a season, and one of them is the Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan — a major event in its own right that is also a championship round.
A national championship, not a world one. It earns its place here because the level is high and it is a regular route into the world championships. The machines are production-derived like WorldSBK, but the regulations differ — notably in restricting electronics.
Its distinctive feature is the Showdown, which resets the points of the leading riders late in the season. Titles rarely get decided early as a result.
Despite being a national series, round 9 is held at Assen in the Netherlands.
Held on closed public roads rather than circuits, and belonging to no series.
The best known is the Isle of Man TT, running since 1907 and the oldest motorcycle race still held, over a lap of about 60 km. Where other road races start several riders together, the TT releases them one at a time at ten-second intervals.
MotoGP is the pinnacle of the sport and needs no help being found. This site sets out to cover what is hard to follow instead — series with thin coverage, and the absence of any single place showing all of them together.
For MotoGP dates, the official calendar is authoritative.
MotoAmerica — as of 29 August 2026 its website was down for maintenance and the 2026 dates could not be confirmed. It will be added once they can be.
Among the road races, the North West 200 and the Macau Grand Prix are missing for the same reason: their 2026 dates could not be confirmed from official sources. We would rather leave a gap than print a guess.
